Do You Appreciate You?

Hi, Beautiful One,

You have worked hard to provide yourself with a future that lives in your mind. While doing all of this you have created systems to keep you grounded and surround yourself with people who push you. In this newfound reality, you are your best self, and yet you still think you can be better. This is admirable because it shows your willingness to improve, but has it become detrimental to you? Have you found it hard to look back over your shoulder to see how far you have come? Have you become lost in the finality of your journey and not the ingenuity?

Every course correction you have made declares a shift in your mind. It's a statement that you wouldn’t accept yourself as you were, but did you neglect who you already are? We think the difference between Point A and Point B is money, power, or title, but what if it was you just you? The correlation between our ability to achieve and success has become eschewed. We place value in what brings us value, but we define it monetarily. We think if it can’t make us a few dollars, then it can’t be substantial. We become lost in that false reality and we forget about our tenacity to create our reality.

Isn’t that funny? Isn’t that odd? The world has forced us to become so enamored with success that we define it with the large. When the large doesn’t happen, we think it is minuscule to what it could be. Society has trained our minds to declare any little win a mediocre existence. The crazy thing is, we celebrate celebrities and people of notoriety when they overcome. Millions are spent on movies that give us behind-the-scenes looks at our favorite musician overcoming addiction, but blast ourselves for not overcoming our own. When will you appreciate you? How can you appreciate you?

Compare and contrast

As you’re doomed to scroll through social media and wonder when you’ll ever have the body and the money, doom scrolls through your life. Look back at where you used to be and compare where you are. Hopefully, it’s a different place, a better place. You prayed to be where you are right now. You cried for deliverance from the place you were. Now, you can’t stand to look at yourself in the mirror? Why? You saw your life for what it was and decided to do something about it. That change altered your life. You sit there wanting more change but fail to recognize just how much you have changed already. “Don’t forget where you come from” isn’t just a statement to keep you humble. It’s to keep you honest and in remembrance of a time you thought you’d never escape from.

Redefine your value

Likes, views, shares, and figures are all like dust in the wind. You have attached yourself to these things that have nothing to do with your worth and everything to do with keeping you in a box the world created. You’re not a slave. You don’t come prepackaged in mint condition for mass consumption. You come as you are, gifted and brilliant. The way your mind works is a blessing. It comes with ingenuity and strength. If you learn how to value yourself outside of the confines of this world, you’ll begin to see just how valuable you are. You must learn to love the way you fail, succeed, breathe, and live because there’s value in all of it. The wind doesn’t care about its value and yet it carries the breeze, the seeds, the current, and sustains life. There is life in you that can’t be measured.

Enjoy the mystery

There are parts of you that have yet to discover. A long-lasting river of ideas and concepts that will continue to moderate your next steps. If you put constraints on it, you’ll lose the nourishment on the way. Let go of the need to set an amount on your worth. Instead, begin to accept how valuable you have always been. Grow in this journey we call life and seek the vast pool of genuine creativity inside you. Learn to live for the adventure of learning you. Give yourself grace when there’s a new desire to try something new. See that desire and yet another tale to be told in your hero’s journey. Fulfill the need to crave something more. Don’t question the next step, take the next step. Your latest self-discovery will free you from the lies and hypocrisy that have kept you so burdened in your mind.

Look over your shoulder for a moment, you'll see everything you have planted. Good seed, bad seed, it’s all there for you to consume. Understand that you can look back. Find gratitude for every small beginning. Don’t curse your journey, nor focus on the desired result. Have hope for the future by recognizing where you are in the present which is further than you were in the past. Only you can walk this out. You’re the one who sees this through. So, why not appreciate yourself for coming such a long way? Why not appreciate yourself along the way?
